Innovative biodegradable dressing for autologous corneal stroma cell transplantation in the treatment of corneal diseases in animals!

Being developed by: Acellmed and Silesian Park of Medical Technology Kardio-Med Silesia, with the cooperation of specialists from the Silesian Medical University and University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw, the dressing for corneal regeneration also as a therapeutic solution for animals.

On 24.05.2023, we once again had the opportunity to present the potential of our project at the Conference, but this time, dedicated to veterinary specialists!
At the conference “InnWet – Innovative Sides of Modern Veterinary and Zeoology”, representatives of our Team, Dr. n. vet. Joanna Tunikowska (w University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw) and Marzena Dyhdalewicz (Silesian Park of Medical Technologies Cardio-Med Silesia), presented the Team’s achievements to date in research on corneal regeneration for use in veterinary medicine, in a lecture entitled. “An innovative biodegradable dressing for autologous corneal stroma cell transplantation in the treatment of corneal diseases in dogs and horses.”

Presented among other things: the causes of corneal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), in dogs and horses, as well as the methodology of the study including:

• cell culture and isolation
• production of the dressing
• application of cells to the scaffold
• ex vivo experimental results

The solution being developed by the multidisciplinary Team, has the potential to meet population needs, not only in humans, but also in animals in which primary and acquired corneal stroma cell deficiencies are observed, such as as a result of mechanical trauma or burns. Given the versatile nature of the scaffold and its high biocompatibility, we believe that this solution will work very well as a biologic drug in animal therapies.
