GLP Research Unit – The Facility for Large Animal

The Facility for Large Animal at our facility is a place where they live and conduct in vivo scientific research on a model of large animals, such as the domestic pig or domestic sheep. At the Silesian Park of Medical Technologies Kardio-Med Silesia, the site is used to conduct research: biological evaluation of medical devices from the PN-EN ISO 10993 group of standards, various medical procedures or other scientific research. The facility for large animal is covered by the GLP quality system, that is, the highest standards are maintained during testing. We have special stalls for the model of large animals, equipped with automatic drinkers and heating mats.  In addition, we have special rooms for animals that need to be subjected to continuous monitoring of their health status, after surgical procedures.

The large animal facility meets strict ethical and legal standards. It is covered by detailed monitoring by specific authorities, and experiments are approved by ethical institutions to ensure animal welfare and minimize suffering.

With state-of-the-art equipment and a properly trained in vivo testing team, the large animal model tests used to conduct: biological evaluation of medical devices from the PN-EN ISO 10993 group of standards or other scientific research can contribute to the safety of new drugs, medical products medical devices. They provide assurance that the biocompatibility assessment of a substance or medical device is carried out according to the highest quality standards and can help ensure the safety of products used in contact with the human body.

We are certified by Good Laboratory Practice in the biocompatibility tests (scope 9) for biological evaluation of medical devices for tests from the PN-EN ISO 10993 group of standards, including in vivo on a small animal model as well as a large animal model.
