GLP Research Unit – The Small Animal Research Facility

The Small Animal Research Facility of the Silesian Park of Medical Technology Kardio-Med Silesia is an excellent place to conduct research and experiments involving small laboratory animals such as mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. It is an advanced laboratory that meets the highest standards of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in which tests can be performed in accordance with ISO 10993 and OECD guidelines.

The KMS Animal Research Facility is designed to provide the highest level of testing for biocompatibility of medical devices, and toxicity of drug products. All animals are treated to the highest welfare standards, and their living conditions are closely monitored by a BMS system, among others, to ensure optimal environmental conditions.

Acute, sub-acute, sub-chronic and chronic toxicity assessment studies are conducted in the laboratory. Tests are conducted that include evaluation of irritation and sensitization, which is extremely important for testing medical devices that can be implanted in patients’ tissues.

At the KMS Small Animal Research Facility, it is possible to conduct examinations using equipment such as an in vivo small animal imaging system, a nebulizer and a heart ECHO.

The KMS Small Animal Research Facility is equipped with a system of IVC (Individually Ventilated Cages) units, which provide each animal with optimal environmental conditions. These cages are equipped with HEPA filters, which minimizes the risk of air contamination and keeps the air perfectly clean. A BMS system controls and monitors the operation of these units, ensuring continuous control of environmental parameters.
