Genetic Laboratory of the Silesian Medical Technology Park Kardio-Meda Silesia in Zabrze
is a highly specialized laboratory equipped with advanced devices that enable conducting in vitro analyses in genomics and transcriptomics. The laboratory has a PCR chamber and
a biosafety level 2 laminar chamber (BSL-2) enabling sterile and safe work with the material.
The specialized equipment of the Genetics Laboratory enables the performance of basic tests
and more advanced analyses in molecular biology. The Genetics Laboratory of the Silesian Park of Medical Technology Kardio-Med Silesia has the following equipment:
The device enables efficient isolation of nucleic acids from various samples (animal and plant cells or tissues) using the purification technique on magnetic beads covered with cellulose. The apparatus allows the isolation of material from 1 to 16 samples
in one round of isolation. The device has CE IVD certifications.
Qsep 100 Bioanalyzer (BiOptic)
System for automatic capillary electrophoresis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) using a cartridge with gel and fluorescent dye. The analyzer allows the verification of the degree of degradation of genetic material, performs DNA restriction analysis, and evaluates DNA amplification products. In the Genetic Laboratory of the Silesian Park of Medical Technology Kardio-Med Silesia, the equipment is mainly used for quantitative
and qualitative assessment of libraries prepared for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
Veriti™ Dx Thermal Cycler (Applied Biosystems)
The system allows amplification of DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The Genetics Laboratory of the Silesian Park of Technology Kardio-Med Silesia uses this qualitative method of analysis mainly to prepare libraries for NGS sequencing. The device has CE IVD certifications.
It enables mass sequencing of prepared DNA fragments. The equipment available
at the Genetic Laboratory of the Silesian Park of Technology Kardio-Med Silesia enables the following analyses: targeted resequencing, RNA resequencing (RNA-seq, Small RNA), targeted gene expression analysis, sequencing of small genomes (bacteria, yeast, viruses)
or plasmids, amplicon sequencing, as well as metagenomic analyses.
Quantitative PCR thermal cyclers (qPCR) Cobas Z480 (Roche), QuantStudio™ 6 (Applied Biosystems)
They enable quantitative and qualitative analyzes using real-time fluorescence measurement (real-time PCR). Carrying out a specific and reproducible analysis is possible thanks to the use of intercalating dyes or molecular probes. This method is used, among others, to assess the transcriptional activity of selected genes in two research projects conducted at our center. The Cobas Z480 is CE IVD certified.
